Introduction to lighting and its place on a film set, rigging the classic film set: Key, Fill and Kicker, a staple of almost all dramatic movies.
We will examine how to put bright stars in people?s eyes, how to create lightning, smoke, water, and candlelight effects. Then we will
use the lights and dimmers to set up a typical pop video lighting rig.
Where you put the shadows on screen is always just as importantas where you put the light. We will
look at shaping and controlling light and creating shadows.
Day Two:
In the golden age of Hollywood some leading actresses would have their key light suspended
on a track above their head so it would follow them wherever they went. Students will learn
why this was and will also learn how to create their own unique beauty key light.
Exteriors: When shooting a film outside in the dark, how do you create a realistic effect while still having enough light to shoot? We will experiment with reflectors and frames and then look at different gels and techniques used to suggest darkness while providing interesting
and adequate light to see the action.
